Following up on the recent article we wrote about the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility leading to more sales, we can conclude with Microsoft releasing a statement saying that they have sold 1.4 Million Xbox One/Xbox 360’s.
Microsoft wasn’t detailed on the sales of each of the separate consoles but the momentum of the company definitely has caught up or maybe surpassed that of Sony’s, with huge increases in revenue not only in console sales but as well as games. Microsoft is also releasing Windows 10 in the very near future, we can expect a more than good year for the company.
Microsoft said that the increase in sales of the Xbox One/Xbox 360 isn’t the only increase, as many of its games are also increasing in sales. Coming into the this category is the Xbox Live store as it has had a very good year with a total yearly revenue increase of $205 million (58%). The overall percentage growth of the games side of Microsoft was 27 percent year-over-year.
Here is the statement that Microsoft released:
“Xbox platform revenue increased $86 million or 10 percent,” reads the report. “[That was] driven by higher volumes of consoles sold, offset in part by lower prices of Xbox Ones sold.”
“Xbox Live transactions revenue increased $205 million or 58 percent, reflecting increased users and revenue per user,” reads the report.
“Total [devices and consumer] revenue decreased $1.3 billion or 13 percent,” reads the report. “[That’s] primarily due to lower revenue from phone hardware, Windows OEM, Windows Phone, and Office Consumer, offset in part by higher revenue from Surface, Xbox, and search advertising.”
