As you may have already guessed, Assassin’s Creed 4 will be releasing in the 2014 fiscal year, which runs from April 1st 2013 to March 31st 2014.
I think it’s safe or us all to assume the next game will release around November/October time, the period that has become home to big franchise releases, including Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed titles.
The latest chapter in the long running Assassin v Templar war will feature a whole new character and time setting, according to statements made by Yves Guillemot of Ubisoft during an earnings call.
“We are delighted and proud to announce today that in financial year 14, we will introduce an all-new Assassin’s Creed hero, within an all new team and time period, and we expect it to be another major leap forward for the franchise,” said Guillemot. “It is the benefit of multiple teams working on multiple chapters of the product, each getting several years to make their versions of an Assassin’s Creed game.”
Now that Assassin’s Creed has turned into a annualised series, the games have started to suffer for it. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations was the biggest disappointment in the franchise. Assassin’s Creed III also went down the wrong way with many fans, criticism being drawn to the many technical issues and bugs present, as well as a bit of a boring story.
Let’s hope that Ubisoft don’t run the series into the ground with these annual releases and that Assassin’s Creed 4 can inject some much needed adrenaline into the series. They need to remember, there’s a reason that Rockstar haven’t annualised any of their properties; it takes time to produce a high quality product.
