Since the recent downfall of THQ, the publishers assets and intellectual properties have all been set or sale, including, but not limited to Homefront 2.
Crytek, the developers of Homefront 2 has now confirmed that the intellectual property of the Homefront franchise is now theirs, after paying around $500,000 for the rights.
According to the developer, Crytek U.K, the game is still in production and will be shown off at this years E3 show.
So those of you who were worried that we wouldn’t see a follow-up to the original Homefront, your worries can now be eased with this news.
Speaking to CVG, Crytek boss Cevat Yerli shared some details on what to expect from the sequel:
“Since we first reached an agreement to develop Homefront 2, we’ve been firm believers in the IP and its potential to excite and amaze players.”
He goes on to say:
“Our cooperation with THQ was always positive and we would like to thank them for all their support over the last two years and express our sympathy to those affected by the recent events at the company.”
“From day one, the Homefront 2 team has been committed to creating a game that takes the series to new heights and features the level of quality and innovation associated with Crytek.”
The original Homefront wasn’t the most popular of games when it first released, but the strong ideas behind the narrative gave it an interesting edge over the usual mass of military-based first-person-shooters. I’m really looking forward to seeing what Crytek have managed to do with the franchise and I think it’s definitely one to watch over the summer when Homefront 2 receives its official unveiling.
