The Rock Band series has somewhat stalled to a stop since the release of Rock Band 3 back in 2010, but that hasn’t stopped Harmonix from being pestered about a possible Rock Band 4.
The developers were recently interviewed by Forbes and when posed the question ‘where is Rock Band 4?’ the answers were somewhat vague. We can’t tell if they’re actually in the process of making another entry into the popular series, but they did offer an idea as to what they would like to do should they release a title for the PS4 and Xbox One.
Speaking of backwards compatibility for the PS3 and Xbox 360 peripherals, Nick Chester of Harmonix gave a surprisingly fair answer.
“We would love for that to happen and we’d do everything in our power to make sure there’s compatibility with those instruments if we were to make another Rock Band game. We’ve already committed to building this huge library of downloadable content that we’d hope to be able to bring to another generation of consoles. We’ve already done that a little with Dance Central Spotlight, and we know it’s possible. That thinking carries over to the instruments as well.”
The peripherals were fairly expensive at the time of release so it’d be great if they could find a way to make the last-gen plastic instruments work with the new-gen consoles. I don’t particularly like the idea of spending £50 on a game and then a further £100 to play it, and I doubt anybody else does either.
