Later this year Killzone: Mercenary will be launching on the PS Vita, and for many it’s hope that there is hope yet for the struggling handheld, as well as hope that the PS Vita will finally get a worth first-person shooter to add to its expanding catalogue.
Killzone: Mercenary will feature a beefy single player campaign as well as an online multiplayer mode. Thanks to an update on the official Killzone website, we’ve got some details on the multiplayer side of things.
There’s to be three games modes that you’ll be able to play across 6 different maps. There’s Mercenary Warfare which is basically a free-for-all deathmatch game mode, fend for yourself or die trying. Then there’s the Guerilla Warfare which puts two teams made up of the ISA and Helghast soliders to battle it out in team deathmatch style gameplay. Finally, there’s Warzone which sounds like the most interesting among the bunch. Two teams are pitted against each other to complete five missions, whoever has the most points at the end of the session is the winner.
The six maps are taken from key areas within the game and they are; Shoreline, Marketplace, Zenith, Refinery, Skyline and Inlet. Each of the maps will offer different features, from zip-lines to breakable cover, it’s all there for your pleasure.
Killzone: Mercenary is set to release on September 4th in the UK and Europe whilst our North American brethren will have to wait until September 10th to get their hands on Killzone: Mercenary.
Killzone: Mercenary is certainly looking to be the shooter that the PS Vita owners are craving. We already know that the single player offering will be a full-blown experience, with each of the nine missions supposedly taking around 6o minutes each to complete. Now with the new multiplayer details it looks like we’ll be in for some decent multiplayer action too, it’s just a shame that it’s capped at 8 players.
