It’s confirmed; Insomniac Games’ next title will be Ratchet & Clank: Into The Nexus and it’s coming exclusively to the PlayStation 3.
After a teaser image posted by Sony yesterday, many speculated that another Ratchet & Clank game was in the works, and it seems they’ve been proven right.
This comes after Insomniac’s first multi-platform game, Fuse, which was met with mixed reception from players and gaming outlets alike. It sees Insomniac return to the series after a brief hiatus which saw the development studio join forces with publisher EA for third-person shooter Fuse.
The announcement comes from Insomniac Games’ community lead, James Stevenson in a post on the PlayStation Blog, as well as being revealed on the official Insomniac Games website, which at the time of writing, seems to have gone.
The description on the site, before it went dark, read:
“After one of the most infamous manhunts in galactic history results in the capture of Vendra Prog, Ratchet and Clank offer to escort the dangerous criminal to the Vartax Detention Center. After a daring orbital jailbreak at the forgotten edge of the galaxy, Ratchet and Clank find themselves lost in an abandoned sector. There, in deepest space, they uncover an inter-dimensional event that threatens the universe—and forces Ratchet to decide what’s really important.
Features:
A return to the Future – Series protagonists, Ratchet and Clank, return along with Captain Qwark, Talwyn, Cronk and Zephyr in a brand-new, story-driven single-player adventure.
Even more crazy weapons and gadgets for your arsenal – Arm yourself with a variety of exotic new weapons and gadgets, including the Winterizer and Nether Blades.
Clank strikes back – All-new gameplay offers inter-dimensional challenges where Clank can alter gravity, manipulate objects and solve mind-bending platforming puzzles.
Discover new worlds… and the dangers of space – Traverse through the zero-gravity of space and explore a mysterious sector filled with new planets to explore along with hidden dangers and dark secrets yet to be uncovered.”
This is no doubt good news for fans of the series, and what’s more is that it’s set to release this Christmas both digitally on the PSN and on disc at retail. What’s even doubly better is that it’s only going to set you back, wait for it… $29.99! That’s mega cheap by anybodies standard, and is a sure fire way to generate some interest in the series ahead of the Ratchet & Clank movie which is due out in 2015.
