Yesterday, Ubisoft announced that the WiiU exclusive Rayman Legends is going multi platform to both PS3 and Xbox 360.
This for most people is a great thing, the game looks great and the more people who get to experience it the better. The issue (at least for me and many other people) is that the game has been delayed for the Wii U just mere weeks away from its release, the official date is now some time in September, that’s a 7 month delay on the Wii U’s part, and a very unnecessary one.
The game was announced quite a some time ago and was revealed as a Wii U exclusive set to release with the system back late last year. The game however was delayed as the developers needed more time to finish the game. Fast forward a few months and it’s now been delayed again, but not because the game still needs to be worked on, the game is in fact finished!
Ubisoft has made the decision to hold off on the Wii U’s launch and to launch the game simultaneously on all three systems.
Personally, I believe this is a big mistake! Like I’ve stated, having the game multi platform is nothing but good, but delaying the game on Wii U just mere weeks before release is a low-blow to Wii U owners, there’s no reason why Ubisoft couldn’t just have scheduled the game as a timed exclusive title and released the PS3 and 360 version at a later date. Which brings me to my next point, Ubisoft have slated the release as September which as we all is the same month as GTA V, plus it’s the season in which the games industry pumps out big releases, from my perspective I believe Rayman Legends will once again fall short in sales due to Ubisoft recreating the same mistake they made with Rayman Origins. It’s also a potentially bad month to release it for Wii U too, since the likes of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and another Call of Duty title as well as more Mario games.
The developers of the game have stated that they too are just as annoyed if not more that us, the gamers.
Below is an email form one the employees at the development studio for Rayman Legends:
“If you’re p*****, imagine how we feel. Think on the situation, we’ve been making overtime with this game practically since May preparing E3, and then almost a demo per month (Gamescom, Wii U presentation, shops, eShop, etc…) and at the same time trying to actually finish the game.”
“We had a first delay because it was obvious we couldn’t finish on time but we gave it all to be there on February. What face do you think we had when the week we had to close the game we’re being told it’s not going to be released? I couldn’t believe it.”
“For us, this means we’ve spent six months barely seeing our wives, kids, and friends for nothing because, after all, such a haste wasn’t needed. Believe it, it was a hell to swallow this news.”
‘”Rayman Legends is an excellent game and will still be, and the team that’s making it doesn’t deserve to have your back turned on them just because some men in ties one day took a wrong choice.”
“This industry is really that s*****.”
Thanks, Larry
