The Syphon Filter series is something that PlayStation die-hard hold very dearly to their hearts. Rightfully so, they’re cracking games and even the PSP versions hold their own against the PSOne originals.
There have been whisperings, rumours and murmurs that Sony may be looking to raise the franchise back from the dead by having Sony Bend weave their magic once again.
Unfortunately it’s not been confirmed (yet,) though we’re all still holding our hope for another installment, something to rival the likes of Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell series.
In a recent Q&A session, Syphon Filter 3’s Lead Designer Jeff Ross offered his personal view on where a new game would go, should it ever be made.
“Speaking as a fan of the series, I think a lot of stories have already been told in the Syphon Universe, and any new title would have to be fresh one way or another (a new storyline, a gameplay genre expansion, or possibly a reboot).”
He did also mention that as a developer he has to keep his mouth shut on “what is or isn’t happening” with the Syphon Filter series.
It’d probably be in the best interests for the franchise to start with a clean reboot to re-introduce the characters to players old enough to remember the legacy of Syphon Filter, and to bring in the newbies who’ve maybe never even played one of the games. Shocking, but they do exist.
Still, we’re holding on to hope that Sony Bend will bring the dormant series back from the dead.
What do you think? Should Sony Bend bring back Gabe and the gang for a romp on the PS4? Or would you prefer to see the super-spy on the PS Vita? Does anybody still use the PS3? Let us know down in the comments section below.
