Get out me mum’s car… Broom Crew
Ubisoft’s The Crew is gearing up for its release this November, so ahead of its launch Ubisoft has been displaying the next-gen racer at this years GamesCom and answering the questions fans want to know.
Speaking on the uPlay YouTube channel, Creative Director Julian Gerighty answered some fans burning questions revealing that The Crew will require players to have an always online connection.
“Is The Crew only multiplayer? Yes. You’ll need a multiplayer, an online connection to play this game,” was Gerighty’s response to whether The Crew was multiplayer only.
What does this mean for players? Well, obviously you’ll need an internet connection, preferably a stable one. This does however mean that if you suffer an outage at any point whilst playing the game then you’ll no longer be able to participate in races and so on. This could prove a little problematic, as a lot of people just don’t have great internet providers. I know from my own experience that internet connections can be fickle and do drop out from time to time.
Then on the other hand, you have players who don’t even have the internet. I know, it might seem strange but around 30% of the American population doesn’t have the internet at home so Ubisoft could potentially be cutting off some players who may have a console, but don’t have the internet.
Gerighty goes on to speak of the games size, stating that there’s around 6000 square kilometers of road for players to drive on as well as explaining that “players can drive from coast to coast without there ever being any loading,” though he did clarify that there is a short loading screen present when you start a mission, with the screen detailing what type of mission you are playing and the objectives.
He also explains that there’s no dynamic weather within the game which is powered by the Fable engine which is a propriety engine from developer Ivory Tower.
The Crew releases on November 11th in North America and November 14th for the UK and Europe and will be available on the Xbox One, PS4, PC and Xbox 360 with Asobo Studio taking the on the 360 port.
The Crew is in for some tough competition this year with DriveClub, Project Cars and Forza Horizon 2 all releasing around the same period, it’ll have to fight for its place atop the crowded holiday hits.
