As we said would happen, Uncharted 3’s multiplayer component has officially gone free-to-play. Sort of.
You can download the multiplayer portion and play up until you reach level 15, at which point you will no longer be able to gain experience points or level up, though all points that you would have gained and other in-game rewards are stored for when you either purchase the Level 25 unlock or Unlimited Level unlock.
Then, (it’s quite lengthy) you can purchase the co-op arena and the co-op story add-on separately, or, you can just cut the nonsense and buy the entire Uncharted 3 game, including all of the DLC for less than the retail version. For the U.S, the price for the full game and all DLC sits at $39.99, though the UK and European prices are yet to be seen.
For those of you who already own the game and have taken part in the multiplayer, you haven’t been forgotten as Naughty Dog has got a few treats for those who have been playing from the start. For starters, you’ll receive a Naughty Dog paw icon logo that will be added to your rank icon as well as some new customisation options in the form of an exclusive shirt and a whole new set of colour options for your characters to dazzle in.
That’s not all. Yes, there’s more. Naughty Dog plan on releasing another 40 pieces of DLC, with each one taking on a different theme, so expect some strange goings on as you blow apart your friends…
Uncharted 3‘s multiplayer goes live at some point later today in North America with the UK and Europe getting their freebie fix at some point tomorrow.
If you want my opinion (and you’re getting it either way,) you’re probably best off buying the entire game, single player, multiplayer and all the DLC for less than it would cost at retail is a steal, and the single player is a fantastic experience that shouldn’t be missed, not if you give a damn about the creative side of game making and expertly crafted story-telling.
