Uncharted 4 is still some way from releasing and all we’ve seen so far is the short gameplay demonstration from the PlayStation Experience earlier this month.
We got to see Drake in action on the PS4 exclusive, we watched him shoot up some bad guys, climb some walls and ride a whip like Indiana Jones; cracking stuff.
What we didn’t get to see was the multiplayer side of Uncharted 4, though that’s understandable, the first showing was always going to be a display of what Uncharted 4 was about, a re-introduction to our old friend Drake if you like.
Uncharted 4 will feature a multiplayer component, as is customary with almost all games these days, though we’ve not been given any solid information with regards to the multiplayer part of the upcoming adventure title.
However, a recent job posting on the official Naughty Dog website may have let something slip earlier than originally intended.
The post for a Multiplayer Gameplay Programmer reads:
You will work closely with a small team of designers and programmers to bring ideas and new gameplay features into the multiplayer experience, working with a variety of systems including player movement, AI, and networking. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently at times, as well as able to work with programmers from other parts of the gameplay team. This is a very creative position and will allow you to work closely with some of the best developers in the world.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
Desired Skills
- Strong math skills with emphasis on 3D math
- Strong knowledge of C and C++ programming languages
- Ability and drive to contribute and advance all aspects of a game
- Experience with multiplayer and network programming
- Console programming experience
- Passion for playing and developing exceptional games (especially multiplayer ones)
Notice those two little letters at the start? AI? That stands for “artificial intelligence,” and attribute most commonly applied to non-player characters within a game, so what’s it doing in the multiplayer?
It’s possible that Naughty Dog may be implementing a co-op experience of sorts, not unlike the co-op missions available in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
Personally I’m not a fan of tacked-on multiplayer experiences, especially when the main focus of the game is the single-player story. That said, since playing The Last of Us and it’s grossly under-rated multiplayer I hold a little more hope than usual for Uncharted 4’s online experience.
What do you reckon? Would you like to see a return of co-op missions in Uncharted 4? Or does the multiplayer not interest you? Let us know down in the comments section below.
