Sony has finally released the big 3.00 firmware update for the PS4, and with it comes a whole bunch of improvements to the system’s functionality.
For PS Plus members the big hurrah comes by way of an increase in online game save space. Instead of the meager 1GB to store your precious save files, you’ll now get a meaty 10GB to keep your progress safe in the cloud. Should keep everyone happy, for a little while at least.
3.00 also brings in some new functions such as ‘Groups’ and ‘Communities’, but both are proving a little more troublesome than Sony may have realised.
Some proud members are displaying their, erm, members as images for communities – not something you really want little Timmy to be looking at when he’s looking for a Minecraft group to join, is it?
Then there’s the friends groups that allows you to bundle different friends into packs. Sounds like a nice idea, but once you start sending messages you’ll soon find that they’re being delivered to everyone in that group. Best to be careful when slagging Dave off for his poor performance in last night’s Destiny raid, then.
It’s not all bad, in fact there is some positively great news: PS4 download speeds seem to be a lot better. For months now the PS4 has been a bit temperamental when it comes to download speeds, but over the past couple of days we’ve been putting the system through its paces and we’ve come away happy that downloads are pushing through a lot faster than before.
