Earlier this year, during Sony’s E3 presser, Shenmue 3 was officially announced after years of being stuck in limbo. After a very, very successful Kickstarter campaign Shenmue 3 became a real possibility and the team got to their desks and started the long process of getting the game made.
In a new update posted over on Kickstarter, Yu Suzuki has revealed that the game will be going in to full development now that the planning phase is complete. He and his team even provided a neat little chart to show fans exactly what is standing between us and the final product.
There’s still a lot of work to be done before Shenmue 3 releases, but at least it’s on the right track and we should be seeing some more and Suzuki has promised to update fans once a month to keep everyone in the loop.
During the update Suzuki told a tale of how a fan of the series has ended up on the development team.
“One night, I went to a Thai restaurant with the development team after work. At that restaurant, a man approached me and asked to shake hands. He said he was a fan, and we had a brief talk. He also happened to be in the game industry and we began to hit it off. We talked some more to find out he really knew his job, and on top of that, he was an exceptionally good person. I was so impressed, I asked him to help with the development.”
Crikey – bet that guy is thanking his lucky stars he had an appetite for Thai that night. Remember folks – always approach your idols: you may just end up being in their next film, game, album. Okay, probably not, but you’ll at least have a story to tell your mates.
Lastly, we’re left with this sketch. Print it out, get your best colouring pencils and make it look all pretty, email it to us via Facebook and we’ll give a special prize to the winner. The prize? Dunno. Whatever happens to be at hand when the email is opened.
