Respawn and EA have given fans their first look at Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the sequel to the well-received Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, though a lot of questions still remain.
The fresh trailer debuted during this year’s Star Wars Celebration event and shows the game’s hero, Cal, doing Star Wars-y stuff, but with very little context, it’s hard to know how his story will unfold. It’s telling that none of his buddies from the original game are shown in the trailer – perhaps Cal is the titular “survivor” amongst his friends. Who knows…
The trailer doesn’t give much away and it’s a tease in every sense of the word; it doesn’t show any gameplay, it’s all CGI cinematics to drum up a bit of hype and get us all excited for another Star Wars game.
The good news is that the wait won’t be too long as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be releasing in 2023. However, there’s no date attached to the year, so it could be next winter, or it could fall earlier in the year. We’ll have to wait and see.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was Respawn’s first foray into the Star Wars license and it proved to be a success with the game racking up high scores from critics and rolling in praise from Star Wars fans. After an initial release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Fallen Order got a port to Google’s Stadia streaming platform and even a free next-gen update for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S owners.
At the time of writing, there’s no clue as to which platforms Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will release on. It could be a cross-gen release to capture as many players as possible – the Star Wars brand is very valuable, of course – or EA could be brave and push Cal’s next adventure as a next-gen showcase. As with all the other questions surrounding the game – we’ll have to wait and see.
