MAGES. announced today (June 24, 2022) that the Nintendo Switch game “Oregairu: My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected” and its sequel will be released as one set for Nintendo Switch on September 22. Both the packaged and downloadable versions will be priced at 7,480 yen (including tax), with a CERO rating of C (for ages 15 and up).
The two games are adaptions of the first two seasons of the popular anime with the same name, telling the story of Hachiman Hikigaya, a pessimistic, closeminded, and realistic teen, who is forced by his teacher to join the school’s service club and work with two girls with issues of their own. They offer help and advice to others while dealing with their inner conflicts.
In this title, the gameplay enhances the original story through an adventure mode in which the player progresses through conversations and various other modes from the perspective of Hachiman, and various episodes unfold in a way that only a game can do. Players will be able to enjoy the unique perspective of the main character and his unsatisfied outlook on real life to the fullest with a game filled to the brim with his fun commentary on the social life of normal students.
Sometimes there are unique situations where you are left alone in an awkward situation with your female classmate, and you have to “Break the Silence” by selecting a “Topic card” to ease the tension between the two of you. If the player can get through it successfully, a heart-pounding development awaits them.
The second Oregairu game has an enhanced story line with the arrival of the junior classmate Iroha. Here the game becomes more complicated, and you have the choice to pick your own actions based on Hachiman’s subjective viewpoint, or carry on the conversation with the other girls as “real people” do. Depending on these choices, the scenario will diverge and the story will change, weaving an exquisite sense of distance between Hachiman and each of the heroines.
You can follow the developer’s twitter and check the official website for more information about the game prior to release.
