Ubisoft seem really keen on getting their best video game franchises out onto the big screen. With the Assassin’s Creed movie being fast-tracked and due out sometime in 2013, and now a Splinter Cell movie in the works, it’s a busy time down at Ubisoft HQ.
While we already know the big names associated with the Assassin’s Creed movie, we’ve not heard a peep about a Splinter Cell movie for years. Until now.
According to Variety, The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy will be pulling on the night vision goggles as he gears up to play Sam Fisher in an upcoming film adaptation of the franchise. Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO, Jean-Julien Baronnet has given some insight on the news:
“Tom Hardy is currently one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills,” Jean-Julien continued, “His involvement in the ‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell’ movie is exciting news for movie and video game fans alike.”
Ubisoft are supposedly in talks with Warner Bros. and Paramount to help finance and distribute the film.
It looks like it’s pretty much confirmed that Tom Hardy will be playing Sam Fisher, but there is no news on anything about the story or any other member of the cast.
